Making Our New House a Home

It’s officially been 2+ months since we’ve moved into our new home, which we fondly refer to as Sweet Home Albright. Making all of the changes and updates to our new house has really made it feel like our home quickly. We started by painting all of the walls and ceilings and then ended up deciding to paint all of the built-ins (there are a lot!), the kitchen cabinets, doors and trim of the entire house. I can’t wait to share the makeover with you guys, the fresh coat of white paint made the biggest difference in the world. Meredith went to the house first to see the progress since I was still out of town and texted me that it looked like a totally new house and it really does! And, of course we added in all of our furniture – we were able to use a lot of what we had and then purchased a bunch of new things, as well. Now that all of the major cosmetic changes have happened, we are working on adding character to the home with trinkets, decor and of course, art. In my opinion, art adds so much character and really brings out the personality of the home!

The builder that designed our home was actually the first owner of the home as well, so they added in a ton of really unique, customized features and things that we love about Sweet Home Albright. One of my favorite things in the whole home is the kitchen entertainment area. Right off the kitchen there is a space for a couch, coffee table, and a TV nook built down into the side of the kitchen island. The space is meant for entertaining, so that everyone can be in the kitchen space hanging out, eating, etc. I just LOVE the idea! I’ve been a bit stuck on exactly what I want for this space and what type of art would best suit the area since it’s so unique. I was browsing one of my favorite destinations for art, Minted and found THE perfect piece! This adorable (and huge) chicken recipe in handwriting-esque script (in a 30×40) is exactly what the space needed. Minted has so many amazing pieces and their site is super easy to navigate. From this piece that looks so similar to the one we have in our living room, which y’all always ask about, to this one that I think would be so beautiful above a fireplace. I ended up browsing the Minted site for hours and also falling in love with this piece for the playroom (we got an 11×14). I love how serene and peaceful it is and it totally fits the vibe of the room.

One of the other reasons I love Minted is the variety. They have a really big selection of pieces and you can customize them to fit your style really easily via the type of frame you pick. I choose the distressed cottage white frame for the chicken recipe art and the Natural Raw Wood Frame for the playroom ocean view.

I’m so excited for this space to be completed and I can’t wait the share the final project with you all!

Thank you, Minted for collaborating on this post. As always, all opinions are my own.
